Computer Science Degrees are Hot Now!
Are you interested in a fast growing career in computers?
Computer science and engineering related jobs are in high demand across the country and around the world. Earning your degree in computer science can put you on track for a great career.
Computer scientists work as theorists, researchers, or inventors. Computer science as a discipline focuses on the different methods of computation. When you earn a degree in computer science you will study theories of computer science, algorithms, basic programming languages such as C and C++, compiler design, and database management. Education requirements range from an associate degree to a doctoral degree in this field, and continuing education is required to keep up with new technologies.
Employment opportunities is this area are anticipated to grow faster than the average as businesses expand their use of technology. There is a projected 40% growth through 2014 according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics. The average salary for a computer scientist is $81,000.
Looking for a Computer Repair Degree?
Computer-repair technicians maintain and repair computers, scanners, and other computer equipment. They run diagnostic programs and use special testing equipment to find out why a computer isn’t working. With millions of computers out there, there are millions of opportunities for computer repair technicians.
When you go to school to become a computer repair technician, you will learn how PCs function, how to troubleshoot problems with printers, modems, and other equipment, as well as how to install software.
Many computer programming schools offer certificate programs, associates degrees and bachelor degrees in computer repair. These will vary by school vary, but in most cases programs will offer study in PC maintenance and servicing, DOS, UNIX OS, Windows, and NT/2000. You might also have courses in software troubleshooting and network administration.
This training will prepare you for the A+ certification test that certifies the competency of PC repair technicians. This certification is vital to employers as it says that you are a qualified computer repair technician.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the average hourly wage in 2006 for computer, and office-machine technicians was $18.29. degree information coming!

Why You Need to Know Linus Torvalds
If you’re reading this I’m sure you know a thing or two about Linux. But did you know this kernel of code was written by the now famous, Linus Torvalds? What started out as a hobby operating system(OS) for his Intel 80386 CPU quickly became the operating system of choice. Currently 2% of the current kernel code is written by Torvalds himself. 2% is still huge considering the millions of contributions made by others. Torvalds today remains the ultimate authority on the what new code is incorporated into the Linux kernel.
Upon conducting my research I came across the actual email Linus sent to a Usenet Group back in 1991 announcing the kick off of his operating system:
From: torvalds@klaava.Helsinki.F (Linus Benedict Torvalds)
Newsgroups: comp.os.minix
Subject: What would you like to see most in minix?
Summary: small poll for my new operating system

Hello everybody out there using minix -I’m doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won’t be big and
professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing
since april, and is starting to get ready. I’d like any feedback on
things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat
(same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons)
among other things).I’ve currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work.
This implies that I’ll get something practical within a few months, and
I’d like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions
are welcome, but I won’t promise I’ll implement them![]()
Linus (torvalds@kruuna.helsinki.fi
PS. Yes – it’s free of any minix code, and it has a multi-threaded fs.
It is NOT protable (uses 386 task switching etc), and it probably never
will support anything other than AT-harddisks, as that’s all I have.
Linus uploaded the first version of Linux, version 0.01 in September of 1991. Then Linux belonged to the world.
As we say, the rest is history.

Oracle9i Certified Professional (OCPDBA) Database Administrator
Did you know that Oracle skills remain the most sought after database skill in the IT marketplace?
The Oracle Database is a relational database management system software product released by Oracle Corporation and has become a major factor in database computing.
Oracle’s 9i OCA (Oracle Certified Associate) DBA (Database Administrator) certification is for “apprentice skill level” IT professionals. Oracle 9i OCA was introduced in late 2001, and requires no specific prerequisite. Having experience in SQL and database operations would be helpful however.
This certification is well suited to IT personnel, with titles such as database administrator, database analyst, and database developer. The Oracle 9i OCA designation is achieved by passing several exams. You must first earn the Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) credential on your desired track (such as Oracle9i). For Oracle 9i you must then pass: Oracle9i Database Fundamentals II, and Oracle9i Database Performance Tuning.
There are continuing requirements with your Oracle certification as well. Oracle will periodically announce requirements for recertification based on the release of new products and upgrades. You have 6 months after the announcement to re-certify.
The expertise of today’s Oracle database administrators is integral to the success of today’s complex system environments. The work of these databases requires a broad understanding of the architecture and process of the Oracle database.
