I was writing earlier today about the emergence of IT jobs as a result of Web2.0. Well, companies left and right are popping up creating new and exciting opportunities for careers in technology.
Take Splunk for example. Splunk is an IT search engine based in Silicon Valley. They develop large-scale, high-speed indexing and search technology for IT infrastructures. They index and make possible to search and navigate data from any application, server, or network device in real time.
I checked out their hiring page and voila, over a half-dozen core IT/engineering type jobs waiting for the right person.

Qualifications
Strong background in C/C++ programming.
BS/MS Computer Science/Engineering or related field. PhD is welcome.
