Did you know server virtualization is gain major traction and maturity in the minds of IT directors and CTOs? If you’re new to tech, you might be asking what is virtualization?

Virtualization is a proven software technology that is rapidly transforming the information technology landscape and fundamentally changing the way people compute. VMware, a company based in Palo-Alto(90% owned by EMC ) is leading the charge.

VMware says it best….

Today’s powerful x86 computer hardware was originally designed to run only a single operating system and a single application, but virtualization breaks that bond, making it possible to run multiple operating systems and multiple applications on the same computer at the same time, increasing the utilization and flexibility of hardware.

Virtualization is a technology that can benefit anyone who uses a computer, from IT professionals and Mac enthusiasts to commercial businesses and government organizations. Join the millions of people around the world who use virtualization to save time, money and energy while achieving more with the computer hardware they already own.

Click here to read their Top 5 Reasons for companies to Adopt Virtualization software. If you’re looking to pursue a career in IT, you’ll no doubt learn the world about virutalization software.

While paying jobs are great, Interns can often lead to grander opportunities! Never doubt the power of an internship. VMware has one I found with a base in Palo Alto CA.

Responsibilities
VMware Inc., a pioneer in virtualization software for industry-standard computers, is seeking a senior software engineer with strong system architecture, including processors, storage and networking. The candidate will have a strong understanding of user space and kernel modules. The candidate will participate in the design of our systems and server management module which will be a part of the next generation of ESX.

ESX server is a robust, production-proved virtualization layer than abstracts processor, memory, storage and networking resources into multiple virtual machines. ESX Server delivers the highest levels of performance, scalability and flexibility required for enterprise IT environments.

Your projects could include:
• Design and develop systems and server management applications in user space and kernel
• Backend server side application development of APIs
• Work with QA engineers and ensure software testability, quality and stability
• Work with documentation team and ensure quality documentation of the product and API
• Opportunities to work with the best and brightest in the industry

Requirements
• Courses toward a Bachelors or Masters Degree in Computer Science or equivalent
• Strong system level understanding of user space and kernel
• Understanding of System architecture, including processors, storage and networking
• Understanding of client-server or distributed, multithreaded applications in C++
• Understanding of object-oriented design methodology and techniques
• Hardware understanding desirable
